Solution · Trade-Based Money Laundering

Follow the money. Reconcile the trade.

TBML investigation software for trade finance. Trade-based money laundering rarely reveals itself in one transaction. The risk sits in the gaps between the invoice, the goods, the shipment, the parties, the route and the payment. RiskPulse investigates those layers together — extracting documentary facts, reconciling them against structured activity, testing commercial plausibility, screening the network, and presenting a case assessment grounded in the evidence.

The work

TBML is a
reconciliation problem.

The investigation has to connect deterministic case facts with documentary and commercial evidence. RiskPulse treats invoices, shipment records, titles, customs filings, counterparties, payments and reference intelligence as parts of one case — then tests where they agree, where they diverge, and what the divergence means.

01

Scope the trade

Define the corridor, goods, case trigger, relevant parties, transactions, documents and scenario markers.

02

Resolve the network

Identify exporters, buyers, forwarders, brokers, consignees, banks and beneficial owners — including shared identifiers and relationships.

03

Extract the documents

Classify invoices, titles, bills of lading, customs filings, purchase orders and communications; normalize the facts they contain.

04

Reconcile

Compare invoices, shipments, goods identifiers, titles, routes and payments. Surface missing links, conflicting facts and unsupported flows.

05

Test plausibility

Assess pricing, fees, geography, logistics, third-party payments and trade-lane behavior using approved reference intelligence.

06

Determine & report

Screen the network, evaluate the indicators, document evidence gaps and assemble the case-level conclusion for investigator review.

Where the agents run

Plan. Examine. Report.

TBML changes the evidence contract and investigative logic, not the core RiskPulse architecture. The checklist remains the control plane: it defines the required actions, inputs, tools, reference packs, expected outputs and evaluation criteria for the case.

Plan

Plan

Interprets the case, the applicable policy, the available data and the investigation requirements to build a case-specific plan — adapting to the parties, scenarios and evidence present while keeping the required policy checks in place.

Examine

Examine

Executes the plan across transactions, parties, institutions, screening sources, external evidence and policy criteria — invoking different tools and steps as the case requires, and retaining the underlying evidence for review.

Report

Report

Consolidates the findings into a structured case assessment — preserving material risks, mitigating factors, supporting sources and the limitations of the investigation, in the format your teams require.

Reconciliation as first-order evidence.

RiskPulse turns extracted facts into a structured comparison across the commercial and financial legs of the trade. Missing or conflicting values become explicit findings that can be examined, sourced and carried into the case assessment.

  • Invoice ↔ payment — amount, currency, beneficiary and reference consistency
  • Invoice ↔ shipment — quantities, goods descriptions, shipment references and dates
  • Goods ↔ title / customs — VINs or other identifiers reconciled against title, export and customs evidence
  • Route ↔ economics — ports, corridors, logistics, forwarding fees and commercial plausibility tested together
  • Evidence gaps — absent or conflicting evidence remains visible rather than being filled in by inference

From evidence to determination.

Document extraction, transaction analysis, party screening and plausibility testing only matter if they converge into a reviewable case. Pulse brings the risk dimensions, key indicators, material mismatches and evidence limitations into a single case-level view for human review.

  • Party legitimacy and control — entity, ownership and relationship risk
  • Documentary consistency — agreement across commercial and shipment evidence
  • Payment-to-trade reconciliation — alignment of money movement to the stated trade
  • Pricing and fee plausibility — reasonableness of value and non-commercial charges
  • Geography and routing plausibility — consistency of route, destination and logistics
  • Sanctions / organized-crime intelligence — external risk signals and their evidentiary weight

Commercial plausibility

Beyond over- and
under-invoicing.

RiskPulse is designed for broader trade-enabled laundering analysis. Pricing matters, but so do third-party payments, forwarding fees, route anomalies, control relationships, organized-crime indicators, missing documentation and inconsistencies between the commercial story and the movement of money.

Policy for this case type

Configured,
not hardcoded.

RiskPulse is designed to reuse the same architecture rather than create a separate product or data model for every trade scenario. The use case specializes the inputs, checklist, tools, reference packs, risk dimensions and report — while preserving the same case, party, transaction, document and evidence spine.

Domain & category
Route the case to a documentary trade-finance investigation configuration — for example commercial banking / trade-based money laundering.
Checklist
Define required actions, inputs, outputs, evaluation criteria, tool access, documentary requirements and whether reference retrieval is allowed for each step.
Case context
Use the existing relational case, party, transaction and document model, with extension fields where variable trade detail — invoice refs, VINs, shipment IDs or roles — is needed.
Reference packs
Store reusable reference material, index it for retrieval, and restrict plan / examine / report to the packs permitted for the specific scenario.
Risk dimensions
Configure party legitimacy, documentary consistency, payment-to-trade reconciliation, pricing / fee plausibility, geography / routing, and sanctions / organized-crime intelligence.
Report
Structure the final narrative around scope, parties, documentary reconciliation, trade and payment plausibility, external intelligence, key indicators, recommendation and supporting evidence.

How configuration works

Controls

Defensible
after the fact.

The same governance and quality controls apply to this case type as to every other — because an examiner does not lower the standard for the harder files.

Governance

Full reasoning chain

Every conclusion carries its reasoning and a citation to the source document, with agent actions and human overrides recorded in sequence.

Quality control

Sampling built in

A sampling methodology sits behind this case type, so your quality team can assess a representative sample rather than reviewing at random.

Quality assurance

Independent assessment

A separate set of agents assesses case quality end to end against your methodology — a second opinion on the work.

Bring a real case.
We’ll show you the workflow.

Bring a trade case with invoices, shipment records, multiple counterparties, imperfect documentation, third-party payments or competing risk signals. RiskPulse will show how the evidence can be extracted, reconciled, tested and assembled into one defensible investigation.
